Pete Harwood

Guitarist / Songwriter

Pete has worked with a variety of bands and artists as a musician, writer, engineer and guitar tech and can currently be seen looking after guitars for various well known artists, as well as playing for MORPHEUS RISING and rock covers outfit Freeway.

Hailing from a musical family, he began learning the piano as a child but took up the guitar at primary school and has been playing ever since. He trained on classical guitar, but discovered a passion for the electric guitar and rock music in his teens, and has been in bands pretty much ever since.

One of Pete's first bands was Harlequin doing a mixture of classic rock covers and original material, where he shared twin guitar duties with one Martin Ledger who later became bass player with Bogus Brothers.

In the 80s Pete put together an all original rock / metal band, Vixen, which enjoyed some degree of success, playing in Switzerland supporting You Slosh and recording a session at BBC Maida Vale studios with legendary producer Tony Wilson for Tommy Vance's Friday Rock Show on Radio One. Playing bass in one incarnation of Vixen was Andy Smith, now with Mostly Autumn and MORPHEUS RISING and a long time friend.

During a brief spell as bass player with Carlisle based prog band Horizon, Pete began working with Sue Ballingall on original material, and has subsequently worked with Sue on many occasions.

As a guitar tech, Pete has toured with many artists such as The Hollies, Trinitί, Freddie Stevenson, Dick Valentine (Electric Six) and The Only Ones, and currently looks after guitars and backline for Bill Nelson and Steve Rothery of Marillion.

In addition to touring with other artists, Pete plays guitar in rock covers band Freeway and his latest project, MORPHEUS RISING is the natural successor to Vixen – an all new twin guitar band in the classic tradition of the NWoBHM.
